Sanjeev and I wrote this song together in the spring of 2000 as a tribute,
so to speak, of our four years of friendship at college. Unavoidable
with any song about a solid friendship, the lyrics sometimes border
on cheesy. However, every line to this song is significant; I am confident
that we steered clear of triteness (although I am sure that is open
to argument). Two themes run through the song: 1) reflections on our
God-given friendship and looking ahead to our parting after college
and 2) a reminder that, in Jesus Christ, we are not at home on
this earth, no matter where we are, but that our home is in heaven and
only then will we be satisfied, since only then will we be with God.
I can say goodbye, I can leave these days behind
For I know my Shepherd will lead me to life
And I will not be satisfied 'til I'm before His throne
I've loved it here, but this is not my home
If we ever get a decent recording of the song, I'll get it up on the
site.

NOT MY HOME
verse 1
As I look back on the years
Shared with you my hopes, dreams, and fears
Showed you the window to my heart
Knowing that someday we would part
Never thought it would come so fast
Though I try, I cannot make it last
I'll cherish every memory
Trusting that Christ has set us free
bridge & chorus 1
Do you know my friend
That God will see us both to the end
And my prayer for you and me
Is that forever friends we will be
To journey life's winding roads with a sense of confidence
And trust in our sovereign God and His perfect providence
verse 2
And if you find yourself in need
Just cast your eyes on Jesus, I plead
And when you feel that no one cares
Just call my name and I'll be right there
If life should take us oceans away
Before the Lord I will lift you and pray
Knowing His grace will lead you through
Even if I can't be there for you
chorus 2
I can say goodbye, I can leave these days behind
For I know my shepherd will lead me to life
And I will not be satisfied 'til I'm before His throne
I've loved it here, but this is not my home
verse 3
So hear me well when I say
That God's pure love for you won't sway
No angel, demon, friend or foe
Can make God love you any less or more
And so I trust you in God's care
Knowing that life is never fair
In this fallen world of give and take
Remember Jesus will not forsake
